| False Readings from Thermo-Hygrometers |
 |
|
Thermo-hygrometers can provide inaccurate
information for a number of reasons. Many of these
reasons are related to operator error, while others
may be simply because of instrument limitations. The
most common causes of inaccurate readings are as
follows:
- Insufficient acclimation time. This acclimation
time can range from 2-15 minutes, depending on the
thermo-hygrometer used and conditions of the air
stream.
- Weak battery
- Soiled probe
- Operator’s breath or perspiration
- Proximity of other air sources (HVAC,
Dehumidifiers, etc.)
- Specification limits of the probe being used (many
do not read below 20% relative humidity)
Since thermo-hygrometer readings are used to make
psychrometric decisions and prove that equipment is
really working, make sure your readings are accurate.

| Evidence Your Equipment is Working |
 |
|
Are you providing evidence in every job that your
equipment is working? Are you showing that your
equipment rental has been earned? Here are some
areas to focus on in your documentation:
- Include initial equipment calculations in your job
file, this proves that you followed the IICRC
recommended formula.
- Provide records of drying conditions that show
specific humidity (GPP) of the affected area and
dehu output
- Include a drying curve from a DriHawk or
HygroHawk thermo-hygrometer that shows
the “spike” – this is proof that your airmovers are
working
- Show estimated pint removal for dehumidifiers
- Don’t forget to take readings on negative
pressure systems, such as the DriForce/Rescue Mats,
to show that they are working

| Answer every question |
 |
|
A stressed out, mad, poorly trained technician
provides poor customer service. Taking care of
employees not only makes a business more profitable
and efficient, it also leads to better customer
service. Some tips for having happy employees:
- Train them thoroughly to perform their duties
- Patiently answer questions they have, ensuring
they can apply proper procedures on the job
- Communicate high expectations for
performance
- Root out “bad apples” – replace them before they
cause problems for your business
- Follow good employment practices: regular
reviews, proper disciplinary actions, etc
- Do little things for your employees to show you
care
