Dri-Eaz University offers new S520 mold course
1 day class

Burlington, WASHINGTON - Feb. 24, 2004 - Dri-Eaz University has made understanding the new IICRC mold remediation guidelines simple by boiling them down into an easy-to-follow 1-day class, "Introduction to the IICRC S520." The new course from the education division at Dri-Eaz covers the IICRC's Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation (S520), a 140-page set of procedures for mold remediation technicians.

"The creation of the industry's first mold remediation standard is important to restoration professionals because it can provide them with added security for expanding their business into mold remediation," said Jim Myers, Education Manager. "With this course, we want to help introduce them to the new mold standards in a way that's convenient, useful, and easy to absorb."

About the course
Dri-Eaz has broken down the new S520 into five general principles of mold remediation: safety & health, project documentation, contaminant control, contaminant removal, and contaminant prevention. The course covers mold issues, highlights of the S520, and principles of mold remediation. It does not cover hands-on mold remediation or applied microbial remediation. Instead, the focus of the course is to offer an overview of the new standards and references in a way that's easily accessible.

The S520
One of the unique aspects of this course is that the workbook is the S520 itself. Included with the class is a copy of the Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation. The S520 is the result of 3 years of collaborative effort on the part of dedicated volunteers from the public, institutional, and private sectors. Its purpose is to combine scientific principles with practical procedures for technicians facing real-life mold remediation challenges. Like the S500, it aims to create continuity in the delivery of services, and help reduce the occurrence of poor practices.
